Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has alleged that an American missionary, Alex Barbir, has been directed by authorities to leave Nigeria over activities said to be capable of fueling religious tensions. He made the claim in a post shared on X on Wednesday evening, noting that the information came from what he described as a reliable source.

According to Ahmad, Barbir had been moving through communities in Nigeria’s North Central region, where he was allegedly involved in actions that could worsen religious divisions. He stated, “A reliable source has informed me that the individual, Alex Barbir, has been asked by authorities to exit the country over concerns about his activities.”

Ahmad further claimed that since arriving in Nigeria, the missionary had been making efforts that could stir religious unrest, particularly in the areas he visited across the region. He emphasized the need to maintain unity in the country, adding that anyone found encouraging division should be held responsible. As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from government authorities confirming the claim.
