The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise will now take place after the 2027 general elections. The decision followed a meeting held with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Friday, April 10.
In a statement issued by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission explained that the revalidation process is an important part of its responsibility to keep the National Register of Voters accurate and up to date.
He noted that the exercise is intended to verify and update voter records, correct personal information, remove duplicate or ineligible entries, and improve the overall credibility of the register. It also gives registered voters the chance to review their details and make necessary corrections. INEC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering elections that are free, fair, credible, and inclusive.
