Galadima Says Obi, Kwankwaso Will Leave ADC on Monday

Top figures in the African Democratic Congress are reportedly preparing to leave the party on Monday amid an unresolved leadership crisis currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.Prominent party chieftain Buba Galadima disclosed that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are expected to dump the party as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Galadima made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja, though he did not reveal the political platform the leaders are expected to adopt.Sources, however, indicate that discussions with the Nigerian Democratic Congress have reached an advanced stage as opposition figures search for an alternative platform.

According to Galadima, recent Supreme Court rulings involving the ADC could frustrate the party’s ability to field candidates within the timetable set by Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries. He argued that prolonged legal battles could prevent the party from resolving its internal disputes before the deadline, thereby jeopardising its participation in the elections.

A key ally of Kwankwaso, Yusuf Kofarmata, also cited deep internal crises and structural instability within the ADC, warning that the party’s future remains uncertain. Despite the setbacks, Galadima expressed confidence that opposition leaders would secure a viable platform to contest the elections, insisting consultations were ongoing. Meanwhile, activist Aisha Yesufu urged Nigerians to embrace unity and place national interest above ethnic and regional divisions as political alignments continue to unfold ahead of 2027.
