Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed reports suggesting he defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that he remains a committed member of the APC. Fubara said claims circulating in parts of the media alleging he had abandoned the ruling party were baseless and should be disregarded.

The speculation followed reports over the weekend claiming that the APC screening committee rejected him during a screening exercise for party-serving governors and that he allegedly stormed out of the venue without speaking to journalists. Responding to the claims, Fubara stated that there had been unnecessary drama and misinformation surrounding his political status. He stressed that he had not left the APC and remained fully committed to the party and its broader interests.

According to him, people should stop relying on social media interpretations and unverified reports to misrepresent his position. The governor made the clarification while inspecting the newly completed General Hospital and the remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He was accompanied during the inspection by the Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, who took him through key sections of the facilities, including hospital wards, the conference hall, ICT centre, students’ hostel and staff quarters. Fubara expressed satisfaction with the projects, describing them as critical interventions designed to address pressing healthcare challenges in the state.

He explained that the decision to rehabilitate the Neuropsychiatric Hospital was informed by concerns over mental healthcare delivery, while the construction of the General Hospital became necessary due to the lack of accessible medical facilities for residents in the area. According to him, many communities around the axis previously depended on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, which he said is too far for many residents.

He noted that the available land within the facility was strategically utilised to build a General Hospital that would serve surrounding communities, including Rumuola, Rumuolumeni and other neighbouring areas. The governor added that both projects have been fully completed and are expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare services. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, Fubara reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on projects that directly improve the welfare of the people. He emphasised that governance should prioritise initiatives that positively impact citizens, describing the healthcare projects as a reflection of that commitment.
