A Federal High Court in Abuja is expected to deliver judgment today in the suit filed by the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), which is seeking an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission to register it as a political party. The case centres on ADA’s demand for consequential orders against INEC following the commission’s refusal to grant the group official political party status.
Reacting to the development, ADA’s National Secretary, Dr Umar Ardo, accused INEC of applying double standards, arguing that the association fulfilled all necessary registration requirements. He alleged that while other political associations were recognised by the electoral body, ADA was unfairly sidelined despite meeting the stipulated conditions.
Meanwhile, attention is also shifting to Oyo State, where Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally unveil his presidential ambition tomorrow during a major political gathering at Mapo Hall in Ibadan. The event, themed ‘Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,’ is being positioned as the official launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential campaign. It is also expected to feature the unveiling of a broader political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party, the Allied Peoples’ Movement and other candidates aligned with an emerging coalition reportedly being championed by the Oyo governor and his political loyalists.
Sources familiar with the plans said preparations for the rally have intensified in recent days amid shifting political calculations within Oyo State and across the South-West. Grassroots mobilisation efforts are said to be in full swing, with political associates and supporters actively engaging in consultations aimed at strengthening a wider political structure. Analysts believe the developments reflect a broader strategy to consolidate Makinde’s growing political influence both within Oyo and on the national stage ahead of the 2027 elections.
The rally is expected to draw political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders and supporters from across the country, particularly those who identify with Makinde’s leadership approach and political direction. Although the governor has yet to publicly confirm any intention to contest the presidency, increasing calls from support groups and close political allies have continued to fuel speculation over his possible entry into the race.
