Jackie Chan has shared insights on when he intends to retire from his long-standing acting career. Speaking on Tuesday, May 6, during an interview with Haute Living, the “Rush Hour” star discussed his upcoming film, “Karate Kid: Legends.”Despite being 71 and ongoing health concerns, Chan affirmed that he still performs his own stunts and plans to continue doing so.

“Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am,” he said. “That’s not changing until the day I retire, which is never!” He added that after 64 years in the industry, physical preparation is no longer necessary, stating, “Everything is in your heart and soul; it is muscle memory.” The “Armour of God” actor reflected on how action filmmaking has evolved since 1962, noting, “In the old days, the only way was to be there and jump; that’s it.”

He pointed out that modern technology enables actors to attempt the impossible, but acknowledged it can take away a sense of realism. Chan referred to this advancement as a “double-edged sword,” explaining that while technology enhances capability, it can also blur the sense of risk and reduce audience impact.

Although he admitted stunt work is “dangerous,” he cautioned against others replicating his approach, saying, “I’m not encouraging anybody to risk their lives to do the stunts like I did.” Chan began his acting journey at age 8, debuting as an extra in the Cantonese film “Big and Little Wong Tin Bar.”
