Suspected armed robbers have attacked Radio Nigeria, Prime 101.5FM, located in Jimgbe, Kogi State, making away with transmission equipment worth millions of naira. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday and lasted over three hours without any response from security personnel in the area.
Confirming the attack, the General Manager of the station, Momoh-Jimoh Adeiza, expressed concern over the situation, which has rendered the station off-air. He said the robbers tied up the security guard before proceeding with the operation. “This is a major blow to our operations. We are currently off air because our vital broadcast equipment has been stolen. Where do we go from here?” he lamented. Adeiza called on security agencies to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, noting that the Zonal Director of the station has also been notified.
He appealed to authorities and stakeholders for support to restore the station’s services. Narrating his experience, the security guard on duty, Daniel Haruna, said the attackers were more than ten in number and armed with guns and cutlasses. “They came around 1:00 a.m., and when they saw me with a flashlight, they tied me to a tree and blindfolded me. I couldn’t call for help. They ransacked the premises for over three hours. It was terrifying,” he said.
Items stolen include copper feeder line components, 22 transmission modules, armoured cables, generator batteries, and other essential broadcast infrastructure. In addition to the theft, the destruction of critical equipment has raised concerns among staff and stakeholders. The attack adds to the growing list of security threats facing media institutions and essential infrastructure nationwide.
