
Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, has released its final 12-player squad for the 31st edition of the FIBA AfroBasket tournament, set to take place in Luanda, Angola, from August 12 to 24. The list features NBA shooting guard Josh Okogie of the Houston Rockets, defensive specialist Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, veteran forward Talib Zanna, Stan Okoye, and guard Mike Nuga, among others. Peter Olisemeka was ruled ineligible and will miss the tournament.
Head coach Mohammed Abdulrahman will lead the team, assisted by Deji Akindele and Ikenna Smart. Stan Okoye and Ike Nwamu will serve as co-captains.Nigeria, placed in Group B, will face defending champions Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar. The 2015 champions will open their campaign against Madagascar on August 13, meet Tunisia on August 15, and conclude the group stage against Cameroon on August 17.
The knockout phase begins on August 18, with the final scheduled for August 24 at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda. D’Tigers are aiming to win their second continental title, having last lifted the trophy in 2015. The previous edition in 2021 saw the team suffer a shock exit to Uganda in the pre-quarter-finals.
