Hip-hop star Jude “MI” Abaga is set to make his debut in animation as the lead voice in Gammy & The Living Things, which opens in Nigerian cinemas on September 5. The project also features Nollywood legends Joke Silva, Bovi Ugboma, and Pete Edochie, in what FilmOne Entertainment describes as Nigeria’s most ambitious animated feature yet.
The film tells the story of Gammy, an ambitious agama lizard voiced by Abaga, who dreams of a life beyond his familiar world. His journey to Lagos blends humour, music, and cultural themes with relatable struggles and uplifting messages.
Victoria Ogar, Head of Distribution at FilmOne Entertainment, highlighted the film’s potential to resonate with both local and global audiences. “Gammy represents everything we’ve always believed about Nigerian stories; that they are powerful enough to connect globally while staying locally authentic. This is proof that African animation can stand tall on the big screen,” she said.
Kene Okwuosa, Group CEO of Filmhouse Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding Nollywood’s reach. He noted that the release of Gammy & The Living Things reflects the ongoing effort to build a robust African film ecosystem and showcase diverse genres.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film is positioned as a milestone in Nigerian animation and a bold step forward for the country’s cinema industry. Gammy & The Living Thing will be available to audiences nationwide from September 5, 2025.
