Leaders of the Kwara State chapter of Miyetti Allah, including its president, Idris Abubakar, have been arrested over alleged involvement in kidnapping and the sponsorship of armed bandit groups in the state. Sources said investigations revealed that the Miyetti Allah leader reportedly confessed to providing support for several kidnapping operations linked to Fulani bandits operating in the area. A security source described the suspects as elderly individuals who ought to be promoting peace and stability, but are instead accused of encouraging violence and insecurity.
The source added that the case points to serious moral failings on the part of specific leaders, stressing that the allegations should not be seen as an indictment of any wider community, and calling for full accountability in accordance with the law.
