
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of patrol teams and intensified security operations nationwide ahead of the Eid-el-Adha celebrations. He directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and Tactical Commanders to bolster security at Eid prayer grounds, recreational centers, and other public places to prevent any breach of peace during the festivities.
According to a statement by the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IG stressed the need to maintain a secure environment for worshippers and citizens celebrating the festival. He urged commanders to implement visibility patrols, intelligence-led surveillance, and strategic stop-and-search operations effectively.
Commissioners of Police, Tactical Commanders, and their supervising AIGs have been instructed to enhance security measures across public spaces. Officers are also tasked with conducting intelligence-led patrols and surveillance operations to mitigate potential security threats.
Egbetokun extended his felicitations to the Muslim community and encouraged Nigerians to uphold the values of tolerance, compassion, and peaceful coexistence, particularly during the holy month of Dhul-Hijjah. He called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security agency, reaffirming that security is a collective responsibility. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining public safety, law, and order throughout and beyond the festive season.
