
The Federal Government has cancelled the traditional military parade earlier scheduled to mark the 26th Democracy Day celebrations on Thursday, June 12, 2025.No official reason was provided for the cancellation. According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebration, President Bola Tinubu will instead deliver a national broadcast at 7 a.m. on Thursday. Later in the day, the President will attend a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon. The session is expected to showcase key democratic milestones and recent government reforms.The revised programme was detailed in a notice signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, on behalf of the Director, Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The new schedule includes:1. Presidential National Broadcast at 7 a.m. on June 12.2. No Democracy Day Parade.3. Presidential attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session at 12 noon.4. Public Lecture on Democracy Day at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, by 4 p.m. The theme for the public lecture is “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms. The event will be covered exclusively by accredited State House correspondents.
