Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has confirmed that he intends to contest the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during an extended interactive session on X, Obi was asked whether he would consider running as a vice-presidential candidate in 2027. In response, he dismissed the idea, insisting that his political ambition remains focused on the presidency.
“So I am flying all over the world to learn how to govern in order to be vice? I am not God. I am going all over the world. I went to Indonesia and spent between one week and 10 days, even going outside Jakarta, to see the president. Do you visit a president to learn how to be vice?” he said.
Obi noted that while he is preparing seriously for leadership, the future remains uncertain. “I am not God. I might not even be alive in 2027. One of the best candidates in Brazil died in a helicopter crash. I thank God that I am alive. If I tell you the things I encounter every single day, you will not believe it,” he added. He also revealed that he has faced repeated challenges while attempting to travel outside the country. “Do you know how many times I want to travel out of this country and I am not allowed to travel?” he asked.
Reaffirming his ambition, Obi stated clearly: “Peter Obi is contesting for the office of the President. I am not God. God knows tomorrow.” He expressed confidence in his qualifications and readiness to lead Nigeria, saying he possesses the capacity, competence and compassion required to change the country. “I have seen the experience, I have studied and followed it. That is how I work,” he said.
