
Enugu State-owned commercial airline, Enugu Air, is scheduled to officially commence operations on Monday, July 7, 2025. The launch event will be held at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other dignitaries expected to attend, according to a statement from the airline. The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Obi Ozor, described Enugu Air as a core element of Governor Peter Mbah’s agenda to develop a modern and integrated transportation system, positioning Enugu as a major aviation hub in Nigeria.
The airline will launch with three Embraer jets from the E170 and E190 series, selected for their efficiency, comfort, and suitability for regional operations. Its initial triangular route will connect Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos, with plans to extend services to Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other key Nigerian cities.
Ozor stated that Enugu Air is built on innovation and sustainability, and aims to transform regional aviation, instill state pride, and enhance Enugu’s national and global visibility. The launch is expected to positively impact Nigeria’s aviation sector by increasing travel options and driving economic growth in the region. With its modern fleet and strategic expansion plan, Enugu Air is set to become a major player in Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
