Renowned American actor Tony Todd, iconic for his chilling portrayal of the titular character in the ‘Candyman’ franchise, has passed away at 69. According to Deadline, Todd died on November 6 at his Los Angeles residence, with his representative confirming the news without disclosing the cause of death.

Born on December 4, 1954, in Washington, D.C., Todd honed his acting skills at the Eugene O’Neill National Actors Theatre Institute and Trinity Rep Conservatory. His profound impact on horror cinema, particularly his leading role in the 1992 classic ‘Candyman,’ earned him a Lifetime Achievement Award at the New York City Horror Film Festival.

Todd’s extensive television career spanned notable roles in:- 21 Jump Street- Night Court- MacGyver- Matlock- Jake and the Fatman- Law & Order- The X-Files- NYPD Blue- Beverly Hills 90210- Xena: Warrior Princess- Murder, She Wrote- Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and VoyagerTodd also starred in the 1990 remake of ‘Night of the Living Dead’ as Ben. His iconic performance as Candyman, a character with a hook for a hand, cemented his status as a horror legend.

The 2021 supernatural horror film ‘Candyman,’ directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and DaCosta, served as a direct sequel to the 1992 original. Based on Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden,” it marked the fourth installment in the Candyman film series.
