Nigeria and India have both submitted bids to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Nigeria is proposing Abuja as its host city, while India is backing Ahmedabad. The Games’ hosting future had faced uncertainty after South Africa’s Durban and Australia’s Victoria withdrew as hosts for the 2022 and 2026 editions. Birmingham eventually hosted the 2022 Games, while Glasgow is set to stage the 2026 edition.
This marks Abuja’s second attempt to secure hosting rights, after losing its 2014 bid to Glasgow. If successful, it would be the first time an African city hosts the Commonwealth Games. India, which hosted the Games once in 2010, views the 2030 bid as preparation for a potential push to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
