On the evening of Wednesday, March 18, the British Royal Family hosted Bola Tinubu and Oluremi Tinubu for a State Banquet. The event took place at St. George Hall, where the table was adorned with carefully selected seasonal flowers and foliage sourced from the gardens of “Buckingham Palace”, Castle”, and The Savill Garden.
During the banquet, Bola and Remi Tinubu were joined by senior members of the royal family, including the “Prince of Wales”, the Princess of Wales Princess Anne and the “Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh”. King Charles III delivered a speech in which he recalled hosting young Nigerians in the UK a week earlier for an evening of jollof rice and tea. He joked that he was informed “the jollof is only the best; Nigerian of course,” prompting laughter and applause from President Tinubu.
The Tinubus are in the UK for a two-day visit, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla. This marks the first State Visit from a Nigerian leader to the UK since 1989. It is also the first time since 1928 that the British royal family has welcomed a Muslim head of state during Ramadan, as well as the first Nigerian president to be hosted by the monarch at Windsor Castle.

Previous Nigerian state visits to the UK occurred in 1973, 1981, and 1989. The most recent royal visits to Nigeria were by Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh in November 2025 and by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on a private trip in May 2024.
