Detectives from the Police Intelligence Response Team have arrested Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-proclaimed leader of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, in Osun State.Adeyemi, who had been the target of a major search by security forces, was taken into custody following an intelligence-led operation that came after weeks of inquiries into the activities of the unauthorized group.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was apprehended smoothly by the specialized team and is currently being held for questioning. The arrest followed a series of coordinated operations by law enforcement, which included a search of his family home while officers were tracking his location. During that search, investigators questioned relatives to gather clues on his whereabouts. Adeyemi originally drew national attention when the council he led became the center of a public scandal. Government representatives quickly pointed out that the organization had absolutely no legal authority or official government standing.
The situation grew more complex following claims that the suspect boasted of deep connections within high-level government circles and allegedly used the organization to build influence. The case also raised alarms after reports emerged suggesting substantial sums of money were paid under the guise of securing government jobs. These assertions are still being looked into and have not been validated in a legal setting.
The Presidency previously clarified that it had no involvement with the group. Additionally, the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, explicitly denied any association, stressing that neither his office nor the administration had ever approved the council’s operations. Detectives plan to question Adeyemi regarding how the group was set up, the validity of the paperwork used for its operations, and allegations that individuals were misled into believing the council was a legitimate state organ. The inquiry will also look into whether accomplices were involved in the operation and if other charges, such as forgery, impersonation, conspiracy, and fraud, should be filed.
While the police have not yet released an exhaustive official report detailing the specific charges to be leveled against the suspect, the arrest is considered a major breakthrough in the investigation into how an unapproved organization allegedly operated within official circles. Adeyemi will remain in custody while detectives finish their work and prepare the case for court.
