The “Foolish” singer Ashanti and her husband, Nelly, have welcomed their first child together. The couple’s son was born last month, marking Ashanti’s first journey into motherhood at the age of 43.

Ashanti shared the exciting news on Instagram today, August 21, posting a photo and video of her postpartum body. “Four weeks postpartum,” she said in the video. “You have no idea what this body can do.”

In her caption, Ashanti opened up about adjusting to the “fourth trimester” and the challenges of new motherhood. “It’s funny how life’s plans aren’t always on time… lol. I’ve been wanting to be a mom for a long time, but nothing could have prepared me for everything that comes with motherhood!” she wrote, also giving a nod to the postpartum underwear she was wearing. “I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti revealed that their baby boy’s name is Kareem Kenkaide Haynes. He was born slightly ahead of schedule on July 18, 2024. The name Kenkaide holds special meaning, as it’s Ashanti’s father’s name.

Ashanti and Nelly, who secretly tied the knot in December 2023, are now proud parents together. Nelly also has two children from previous relationships: daughter Chanelle Haynes, 30, and son Cornell Haynes III, 25. Additionally, he adopted Shawn and Sydney Thomas, the children of his late sister Jackie Donahue, after she passed away from leukemia in 2005.
