Nigeria is expected to receive $3 billion worth of telecommunications equipment and fibre optic infrastructure in June 2025 to expand nationwide connectivity.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this during a panel session at the World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update, noting that $1 billion in telecoms equipment is set to arrive by mid-year, with an additional $2 billion in fibre optic cables to follow.
The investment is aimed at strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and addressing the communication needs of underserved communities. A pilot phase will also be launched to connect over 20 million Nigerians currently without any form of telecommunications access. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve connectivity and accelerate digital inclusion across the country.
