The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has brought in top IT professionals and educational assessment experts to probe reported technical issues during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Some candidates linked the widespread failure in this year’s UTME to technical faults, with results showing that 1.5 million out of 1.9 million test-takers scored below 200 out of 400. Education advocate and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, stated that over 8,000 students had submitted complaints and were preparing to take legal action against JAMB. He called for full transparency, including access to detailed mark sheets and an effective system for challenging results.

In response, JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin said the board had initiated a system-wide review involving experts from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, heads of tertiary institutions, the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, and other specialists in measurement and evaluation.

Benjamin noted that the review, part of JAMB’s annual post-examination assessment, would examine all aspects of the UTME process. He assured that if any glitches were confirmed, corrective steps would be taken.

JAMB acknowledged the concerns but described them as limited to a few areas. However, the board reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, adding that candidates with verified technical issues would be rescheduled for another exam.
