The Ogun State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Federal Government through the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy to implement the *Renewed Hope Cultural and Creative Projects* within the state.

This collaboration was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which outlines plans to establish a *Renewed Hope Cultural Village*, preserve and enhance tourist sites, build capacity within the sector, and promote economic empowerment. Governor Dapo Abiodun signed the MoU on behalf of the state, while Minister Hannatu Musawa represented the Federal Government.

At the signing ceremony, Governor Abiodun emphasized the immense economic potential of tourism if properly harnessed. He highlighted that the sector not only creates employment but also fosters unity and social development.“Tourism provides employment opportunities by keeping people busy. Culture, on the other hand, unites our people; therefore, there is a need for us to focus on it,” he said. “Our people are endowed with creativity but do not have the platform to showcase their talents.”

The governor pointed to several cultural festivals and landmarks in the state, including Orona Day, Lisabi Day, Remo Day, and the iconic Ojude Oba Festival. Key tourist sites such as Olumo Rock, the Centenary Hall, and Nigeria’s first church and Bible were also cited as significant cultural assets that attract visitors.

Governor Abiodun noted that his administration has laid the necessary infrastructure to support the tourism sector and is now prioritizing the rehabilitation of tourist sites to make Ogun a major destination for local and international tourists.

“We want to use tourism as a platform to project our state even further,” he added. “Countries with similar oil-dependent backgrounds have successfully diversified into tourism as their leading revenue source. Nigeria, with its rich cultural heritage, should do the same.”

Echoing this vision, Minister Hannatu Musawa explained that her visit was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to build federal-state partnerships aimed at showcasing the cultural uniqueness of every Nigerian state. “The President wants the federal government to do a handshake with the state governments to build a sustainable future, drive economic growth, and create jobs through culture,” she said. “Each state has its own unique offerings, and this partnership allows them to lead the conversation.”

According to the Minister, the MoU gives states the opportunity to submit proposals tailored to their unique cultural and creative potential, enabling development of heritage sites and boosting local tourism.

Musawa praised Ogun State for its cultural richness, scenic landscapes, and legacy of producing iconic Nigerian personalities. She concluded by noting that the state is poised to experience “something extremely special” with the launch of the Renewed Hope Cultural and Creative Project.
