Veteran highlife artist Bright Chimezie has shared his joy after Afrobeats star Davido acknowledged him as an inspiration for the song “With You” featuring Omah Lay.
In an interview with HipTV, Chimezie revealed that Davido pointed to his 2018 track “Because of English” as the creative influence behind the hit. He praised Davido’s humility and said he felt deeply honoured by the recognition, noting that he hadn’t known about the connection until Davido personally informed him.
He said he was overwhelmed with gratitude and pleasantly surprised when Davido reached out to explain how the older track had shaped his own work.Chimezie, who recently signed a publishing deal with Sony Music, also confirmed that he remains musically active, though he has stepped back in recent years to give space to emerging talents.
