Tension erupted at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Thursday after the school began enforcing its ban on the popular post-examination “signing off” tradition among graduating students.

A video shared on Facebook by Okwa C. Ifugo showed two unidentified female students being sent out of a campus building for wearing shirts covered in marker inscriptions.

Earlier on Tuesday, the university management had announced the ban in a circular signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke. The directive stated that the practice often leads to chaos, violence, and disruption of normal academic activities.
