The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on Monday, September 29, 2025, administer the oath of office to 57 newly elevated Senior Advocates of Nigeria at the Supreme Court’s Main Courtroom in Abuja.According to a statement issued on Sunday by the court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Festus Akande, the event will form part of the official commencement of the 2025/2026 legal year.

Justice Kekere-Ekun will also deliver a State of the Judiciary address, reviewing the Supreme Court’s performance during the 2024/2025 legal year and outlining broader developments within the Nigerian judiciary.

The ceremony will feature presentations from other key stakeholders, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Their remarks are expected to address challenges in the justice system and propose reforms to strengthen its operations.

The Supreme Court had earlier gone on its annual vacation on July 21, 2025, following what it described as a “remarkably successful” legal year. The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee had on July 24, 2025, unveiled the list of 57 new SANs — 56 from legal practice and one from academia. The court announced that Monday’s programme will begin at 10:00 a.m.
