The Super Falcons have officially secured qualification for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026.Nigeria, holders of the continental title, booked their spot after an assured two-legged performance against Benin Republic, continuing their unmatched record of consistency in African women’s football.

Following a 2–0 victory in Cotonou, the Falcons wrapped up the tie with a 1–1 draw in Abeokuta, sealing their 16th consecutive qualification for the continent’s top women’s tournament — a feat unparalleled in African football history. In front of an energetic crowd at the MKO Abiola Stadium, the Super Falcons approached the return leg with confidence. Already leading from the first leg, Justine Madugu’s side dominated possession and controlled the tempo from the outset.

Their persistence paid off in the 12th minute when Al-Ittihad defender Ashleigh Plumptre, known for her composure and precision, drove forward and unleashed a powerful left-footed strike from the edge of the box to give Nigeria the lead.Benin, however, showed resilience and fought back. In the 61st minute, Yasmine Djibril — one of the breakout stars of the qualifiers — capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot home a neat equaliser, sending the visiting supporters into jubilation.

Despite the setback, Nigeria remained composed, with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie producing key saves and veteran defender Osinachi Ohale anchoring the backline to ensure a comfortable finish. With the draw, the Super Falcons maintained their unbeaten run and reaffirmed their dominance in African women’s football as they prepare to defend their crown in Morocco next year.
