Billionaire industrialist and BUA Group Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu has confirmed that he will honour his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles, despite the team falling short of winning the Africa Cup of Nations. Rabiu shared the announcement on his official Instagram page, praising the players for their resilience, courage, and determination throughout the tournament. He noted that while the team did not achieve the desired result, their efforts had made Nigerians proud.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote. He added that outcomes do not always reflect effort, and that the passion, unity, and spirit shown by the team were what truly mattered. “You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration,” he said. Rabiu also confirmed that the $500,000 reward he promised before the tournament would still be given, as a recognition of the players’ dedication and the joy they brought to Nigerians during the competition.

The Super Eagles impressed with their performance, advancing to the semi-finals, but ultimately lost 4–2 in a penalty shootout to Morocco after a goalless draw at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Rabiu encouraged the players to remain optimistic, expressing confidence that the lessons learned and experience gained would inspire greater success in future competitions.
