Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City has expelled several students after a viral video surfaced showing a student being bullied and assaulted inside a classroom. The disturbing clip, widely shared on social media, shows the victim being flogged, punched, kicked in the stomach and stamped on the head and ribs by fellow students.
In a statement released on Friday night, the school’s management confirmed that those involved had been identified and expelled following an immediate internal investigation. The school described the incident as shocking and unacceptable, noting that the actions of the students violated the institution’s core values and disciplinary standards.
According to the statement, the school operates a strict zero-tolerance policy against bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment and all forms of violence within its community. Management added that the safety and wellbeing of students remain its top priority and confirmed that the affected student is receiving support, while the school works closely with the family to address the situation.
The matter has also been reported to the authorities, and the school said it is cooperating fully with the police since the students involved are minors. Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has urged the victim and his parents to come forward and file a formal complaint to enable a proper investigation. Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem said officers had seen the viral video but require an official report from the victim’s family before launching a full investigation into the incident.
