Nigerian wrestler Isaac Odugbesan, better known as Oba Femi, produced one of the biggest upsets in recent WWE history by defeating 10-time world champion Brock Lesnar in under five minutes at WrestleMania 42 on Sunday. The highly anticipated bout, which was among the main events of the night, ended in dramatic fashion as the 27-year-old dominated the veteran, sparking widespread reactions across social media.
Lesnar, long considered one of the most dominant figures in professional wrestling, left his boots and gloves in the ring after the match — a gesture widely seen as a sign of retirement in the sport. Nicknamed “The Ruler,” Oba Femi showed no signs of nerves on his WrestleMania debut, going toe-to-toe with Lesnar from the start. The match opened as a physical contest, with Lesnar briefly taking control through a series of heavy attacks.
The momentum soon shifted as the Nigerian star fought back. After enduring sustained pressure, Oba Femi recovered, powered through an F5, and responded with a powerful chokeslam before sealing the win with his finishing move, the “Fall From Grace” sit-out powerbomb. The victory marks a major milestone in Femi’s rapidly rising career, coming just three months after his move to WWE’s main roster.
Originally a track and field athlete specialising in shot put, Oba Femi has risen quickly since joining WWE in 2021 through its Next In Line (NIL) programme. He has since claimed key developmental titles, including multiple NXT championships, and won both the 2023 NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament and the 2024 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge. Speaking after the event, Oba Femi hinted at his next target with a message directed at Roman Reigns. Although he stopped short of issuing a formal challenge, the statement drew a strong reaction from the crowd and has fueled speculation about a potential high-profile title clash before the end of the year.
