Drawing inspiration from iconic African studio photographers of the 1960s and 1970s—including Malick Sidibé, Sory Sanlé, and Omar Yahia Barram—her work delves into the layered dimensions of her identity, blending elements of her Islamic beliefs with her African roots.
Shaw later began producing visual pieces shaped by her personal memories and influences drawn from these inspirations. Over time, her work has evolved into a deeper exploration of her heritage, with a strong focus on self-portraiture and more introspective themes. In 2025, she was named a New Wave Creative by the British Fashion Council. That same year, she photographed Usain Bolt for Puma, Cynthia Erivo for major publications including The Guardian, Sunday Times, and Vogue, and Angela Bassett for EBONY. She also created the album cover for singer Craig David.
