The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a bride’s father, 54-year-old Durosimi Anthony Taiwo, and a 30-year-old hype man during a wedding ceremony in the Ikotun area of Lagos State. The incident reportedly occurred at a wedding event held at 4B Oviawe Street, off Awosika Street, Governor’s Road, where both victims were shot.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, no arrests have been made so far, but the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, for detailed investigation. “The Command is aware of the incident and as of today (yesterday), no arrest has been made, but the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State for thorough investigation and we are yet to ascertain the reason for the attack,” she said.

She added that efforts are underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining security across the state, noting that collaboration with other security agencies remains key to combating crime. He commended the support of security formations, including the Armed Forces, and said such cooperation is vital for sustaining peace and addressing emerging security challenges.

Fatai warned that the police command will not tolerate any acts capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that offenders and their sponsors will face the full weight of the law. He urged residents of Lagos State to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and promptly report any suspicious behaviour or security threats to the authorities through designated emergency channels.
