Fresh reports suggest that the driver involved in the fatal road accident that injured former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, may face prosecution for reckless driving, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
The source revealed that preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicated the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed and engaged in wrongful overtaking—violations considered serious breaches of traffic laws and potential grounds for criminal liability where fatalities occur. Investigators are reportedly concluding documentation to be forwarded to the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, which is collaborating with prosecutors to determine the appropriate charges. Possible prosecution for dangerous or reckless driving causing death is said to be under review. The source also confirmed that Joshua suffered a leg fracture in the crash.
While authorities have yet to issue an official statement, the incident has reignited public discussions around road safety and accountability on Nigerian highways. The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claiming the lives of two of Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
