A new wave of controversies has once again put Nigeria’s entertainment industry in the spotlight, following a series of high-profile disputes involving prominent figures in both music and film. The latest incident reportedly took place earlier this week in Lagos, where Afrobeats star Burna Boy was accused of assaulting disc jockey DJ Tunez during an altercation at a nightclub.
The situation triggered swift reaction from the Nigerian DJ Association, which announced a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s songs across DJs’ playlists both locally and internationally. In a statement shared on Instagram, the group said the decision would remain in place pending a full investigation into the incident involving DJ Tunez.
The association also stressed unity and fairness among its members, while eyewitness reports circulating online alleged that the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation. The controversy deepened after Wizkid, whose official DJ is Tunez, reacted on social media, criticising Burna Boy over the incident. Responding during a livestream with Shallipopi, Burna Boy denied claims that he acted with others, insisting he alone was responsible for the altercation. He also dismissed Wizkid’s comments, suggesting his own influence operates beyond social media.
While the music scene continues to deal with the fallout, a separate incident in Nollywood has also drawn attention to relationships among film stars. At the premiere of *The Return of Arinzo*, produced by Iyabo Ojo, a viral video showed Funke Akindele appearing to ignore fellow actress Toyin Abraham during a greeting. The moment quickly sparked speculation about possible tension between the two.
The reaction has raised eyebrows, especially as Akindele had recently spoken about the need for unity in the industry, encouraging collaboration over competition among actors and filmmakers. Taken together, these incidents have renewed concerns about rivalry, ego clashes, and professional conduct within Nigeria’s entertainment space.
