The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the Osun State local government council polls, winning all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the 30 local government areas.

The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Hashim Abioye, announced the result at a briefing on Saturday in Osogbo. Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke commended the electoral process and the people of Osun for maintaining a peaceful and orderly atmosphere at polling units across the state. The All Progressive Congress (APC) had boycotted the poll after the Appeal Court reinstated the chairman elected on its platform in 2023.

Despite the APC’s boycott, the PDP participated in the election, and its candidates won all the available seats. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), had advised the State Government not to proceed with the exercise, stating that it would be illegal.

The Police had also advised against the poll, but the State Government proceeded with the exercise, which ultimately resulted in the PDP’s sweeping victory.
