The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled Saturday, 16 August 2025, for bye-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states.INEC Chairperson, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced the development during a meeting with the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Abuja on Thursday.

The bye-elections cover two senatorial seats, five federal constituencies, and nine state constituencies. According to Yakubu, more vacancies have been declared since the commission last conducted nine bye-elections in February 2024 to fill legislative vacancies caused by deaths and resignations. However, elections will not be held in two constituencies: Khana II State Constituency in Rivers State due to the current state of emergency, and Talata Mafara South State Constituency in Zamfara State, which is under legal dispute following a declaration of vacancy by the state assembly.

Yakubu stated that INEC will deploy 30,451 officials for the exercise, which will also include court-ordered re-run elections in Enugu South I (Enugu State) and Ghari/Tsanyawa (Kano State) constituencies. For the senatorial seats, elections will hold in Anambra South and Edo Central. The Anambra South seat became vacant following the death of Ifeanyi Ubah in 2024, while the Edo Central seat was vacated when Monday Okpebholo became governor.

Federal constituency elections will be held in: Ovia South West/Ovia South East, Edo Babura/Garki, Jigawa Chikun/Kajuru, Kaduna Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North, Ogun Ibadan North, OyoState House of Assembly elections will be held in: Ganye, Adamawa Onitsha North I, Anambra Dekina/Okura, Kogi Zaria Kewaye and Basawa, Kaduna Bagwai/Shanono, Kano Mariga, Niger Karim Lamido I, Taraba Kauran Namoda South, ZamfaraA total of 3,553,659 registered voters are expected to participate across 32 Local Government Areas, 356 Wards, and 6,987 Polling Units.Party primaries are scheduled for 17–21 July, while the nomination portal will open on 22 July at 9:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. on 26 July.
