The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has encouraged young Nigerians to consider diverse career paths in the aviation industry beyond the popular role of cabin crew. In a post on X on Monday, NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu noted the increasing interest among Nigerian youths in cabin crew training, often driven by the appeal of becoming flight attendants.
He acknowledged the attractiveness of the profession, saying, “It’s a beautiful line of work. You wear smart uniforms, travel the world, and interact with people from all walks of life. It builds patience and character.” However, Achimugu emphasised that there are several other crucial roles in aviation that are in high demand and offer broader opportunities for professional and financial growth.
“Many young Nigerians are investing in cabin crew training. They love the glamour of that career. It is a beautiful line of work. You get to serve people from all walks of life. Your patience gets tested as much as your character. You learn to smile whether you are happy or not. You wear cute uniforms and travel freely,” he said.He advised aspiring aviation professionals to research areas with higher demand and career advancement potential, stressing that the aviation sector extends far beyond the visible front-line roles.
“There is more to aviation than the visible front-line roles. Find the gaps where there is scarcity and fill that space. That’s how you truly add value,” he added. Achimugu highlighted the looming global shortage of aviation professionals and said Nigeria’s youth could seize the opportunity by exploring technical and operational roles such as aircraft maintenance technician, aerospace engineer, flight instructor, flight dispatcher, marshaller, and air traffic controller.
He also urged young people to make informed career choices through proper research. “If you want to go into aviation, research beyond just your passion—the areas where there are more needs for operators and other service providers. Where is the scarcity? Fill that space and add value. All of these careers also offer job opportunities outside Nigeria,” he said. Achimugu concluded by describing aviation as a fulfilling industry where every role contributes to the sector’s overall success and encouraged young Nigerians to begin their training early.
