An extensive anti-drug operation across Singapore has culminated in the arrest of 100 individuals suspected of drug-related offenses, the Central Narcotics Bureau announced on Friday.The sweeps, which took place over several days, led to the confiscation of narcotics valued at more than thirty-four thousand dollars. Law enforcement personnel recovered approximately 859 grams of cannabis, 120 grams of heroin, and 85 grams of crystal methamphetamine, along with minor quantities of ecstasy and Erimin-5 pills, plus a small sum of cash. According to authorities, the volume of seized cannabis, heroin, and methamphetamine represents enough supply to sustain the habits of over two hundred drug abusers for a week.
The enforcement efforts blanketed multiple residential neighborhoods across the island, with targeted operations unfolding in areas such as Boon Lay, Ghim Moh, Jurong, Kallang, Tampines, Tengah, Toa Payoh, and Woodlands. In one significant encounter on Tuesday, investigators acting on a tip-off apprehended a 28-year-old Singaporean male on suspicion of drug distribution. Subsequent searches of his motorcycle parked on Woodlands Street 13 and his residence along Segar Road uncovered 689 grams of cannabis, 9 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and various drug-related processing equipment within the apartment.
Later in the week, the narcotics bureau spearheaded a multi-agency crackdown at a foreign worker housing facility in the Jurong area. Working alongside personnel from the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore Customs, and the Health Sciences Authority, officers focused on rooting out drug consumption and trafficking. The joint effort resulted in the detention of nine Bangladeshi men, aged between 22 and 40, for various drug violations. Three members of this group are specifically being investigated for suspected drug distribution and use, following the discovery of roughly 15 grams of cannabis during the dormitory search.
Formal investigations regarding the illicit activities of all detained individuals remain active.Under local legislation, specifically the Misuse of Drugs Act, it is strictly forbidden to engage in drug trafficking, offer to distribute banned substances, or take any preparatory steps toward facilitating drug sales. Singapore maintains some of the strictest narcotics laws globally; individuals successfully prosecuted for trafficking more than 500 grams of cannabis face a mandatory sentence of capital punishment.
