Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s relationship began facing challenges as early as their honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy, according to a source close to the situation, who spoke to Page Six.
The couple’s honeymoon featured numerous public outings filled with PDA and shopping sprees. However, Ben was reportedly unhappy with the constant presence of paparazzi.
“He was frustrated with the paparazzi following them everywhere. Jennifer is an international superstar, but he seemed taken aback by the constant attention,” the source revealed.
When not in the public eye, tensions between the couple became apparent. “They barely spoke to each other during what was supposed to be one of the happiest times of their lives. Ben had convinced Jennifer that he was a changed man, but it didn’t take long for that to unravel,” the source added.
Another insider suggested that Affleck’s realization about their rekindled romance came as his sobriety began to stabilize. “When they got back together, Ben was just starting his journey toward sobriety. He was in a vulnerable state, and their chemistry played a big role in that. He was in a frenzied, excitable state at the time,” the insider shared.
Affleck has been candid about his struggles with alcohol, with his most recent rehab stint reportedly taking place in 2018.
As the initial excitement of their reunion wore off and Ben settled into his sober life, he began craving more privacy, something that clashed with Lopez’s high-profile lifestyle. “He no longer wanted the entourage or the drama that came with it in his home,” the insider explained.
Despite their issues, sources previously noted that Ben remained considerate of Lopez’s feelings as their relationship began to unravel in the spring. “He was very protective of her, which is why he delayed filing for divorce,” one source said.
However, it was impossible to avoid the inevitable. “Jennifer is furious. She feels humiliated. Ben was the one who pushed for them to get back together, and she made it clear that she saw him as the love of her life,” the source continued.
Lopez officially filed for divorce on August 20, marking the second anniversary of their wedding.
