The United States Mission in Nigeria has clarified that visa applicants, including Nigerians, remain subject to ongoing security screening even after their visas have been approved. The mission disclosed this in a statement shared via its official handle on X on Monday. It explained that visa security vetting is a continuous and multi-layered screening process employed by U.S. authorities to assess an applicant’s background, criminal records, terrorism-related risks, and other security concerns.

According to the mission, the process applies to all visa applicants irrespective of visa category or geographical location. The statement noted that the objective of the screening is to ensure that all visa holders remain qualified to travel to the United States throughout the validity period of their visas. It stated that security checks begin from the point of application and continue through the adjudication process, extending even after a visa has been issued.

The mission stressed that the continuous vetting system is designed to confirm that individuals maintain their eligibility to enter the United States. The advisory serves as a reminder to prospective travellers, particularly Nigerian applicants, of the need to remain compliant with U.S. immigration and security regulations at every stage of the visa process.
