President-elect Donald Trump’s official inauguration portrait has been unveiled, ahead of his swearing-in ceremony as the 47th president of the United States on January 20. The portrait, revealed on X by Daniel Torok, the chief photographer for the transition team, has generated significant buzz on social media.

Supporters of Trump view the portrait as a glimpse into his upcoming second term, while others have drawn comparisons to his infamous mugshot from August 2023. The mugshot, taken after Trump surrendered at Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia, following his indictment on racketeering charges, has had a lasting cultural impact. It unexpectedly boosted his popularity among his base and even generated $US7.1 million in merchandise sales featuring the image.

Former Trump adviser Stephen Miller has described the mugshot as the “most powerful image” he’s seen. The inauguration portrait’s similarity to the mugshot has sparked mixed reactions, with some social media users commenting on the eerie resemblance.
