The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Durbar celebrations during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr festivities, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order. Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced the ban during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a peaceful and secure environment.

Bakori stated that security assessments identified rising tensions and potential threats linked to the Durbar, which could lead to unrest. He urged worshippers to observe their Eid prayers at designated praying grounds, assuring that adequate security measures had been put in place for their safety.

“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” Bakori stated.

He said ‘’This decision was made after consultations with relevant security stakeholders following credible intelligence reports indicating an orchestrated plan by recruited miscreants and their sponsors to use Durbar as a proxy to undermine security and public order.

The CP also advised against carrying suspicious objects, horse riding (Kilisa), reckless driving, and any behavior that could disrupt public peace. Parents were encouraged to caution their children against being exploited by subversive elements.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us prioritize peace above all else, setting aside our differences and coming together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of the state and the nation,” Bakori stated.

The police urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security formations, providing emergency contact numbers for swift response. This development follows an earlier announcement by the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, canceling his planned Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace. Bayero had previously requested police protection for the event, but concerns arose over potential clashes, as the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was also preparing for Sallah celebrations.
