The House of Representatives has rejected claims by Ibrahim Auyo that its leadership demands up to N3 million to present bills, motions, and petitions on the floor. Auyo, representing Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa federal constituency in Jigawa under the All Progressives Congress (APC), told constituents during a meeting that lawmakers pay between N1 million and N3 million to get proposals through, adding this was why he had not sponsored any bills or motions.

In a statement issued Friday night, the House described the allegation as baseless and warned that such remarks, if left unaddressed, could erode public trust in the National Assembly. It stressed that any such claims must be supported by evidence and raised through proper parliamentary channels.

The statement added that the House encourages members to use recess periods to engage with their constituencies and report on their activities. When the chamber reconvenes, Auyo will be asked to provide proof of his allegations. If he fails to do so, the matter will be referred to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges for consideration in line with parliamentary rules.
