Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu has clarified his remarks about veteran actor Pete Edochie, stating that his earlier comments were misrepresented. Speaking on the ‘NollyNow’ podcast, Udokwu explained that he never said Edochie paraded himself as Nollywood’s oldest actor or made any derogatory statements about him. He noted that he only pointed out that his Nollywood career began before Edochie’s debut in the industry.

Udokwu said the claim that he accused Edochie of “parading himself” was false. He clarified that Edochie’s acclaimed performance in Things Fall Apart was outside the Nollywood era, stressing that the production predated the industry’s emergence.

He emphasised his respect for Edochie, describing him as an elder deserving of honour and noting that African culture upholds respect for senior figures. Udokwu added that he admires Edochie greatly and would never disrespect him. The actor, who currently serves as Special Adviser on Entertainment, Leisure and Tourism to Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, also recalled his early roles in productions like Checkmate and When the Sun Sets, though he said he does not consider them part of Nollywood’s official beginnings.
