The younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, Ruth Otabor, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Ogun State.A circulating video captured the somber scene, showing Phyna with fellow BBNaija Level 2 housemates present to support her during the burial.

Ruth’s death followed a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, where a Dangote Group truck struck her, causing severe injuries, including the amputation of her leg. Despite efforts for specialised treatment abroad and the Dangote Group’s financial and medical support, she passed away on August 31, 2025.

Phyna announced the loss through her social media platforms, sharing a family lawyer’s statement confirming Ruth’s death and requesting privacy. PUNCH reported that the Dangote Group, already responsible for her medical expenses, was also expected to cover burial costs.

The incident triggered widespread grief and public calls for justice and improved road safety. Following Ruth’s death, Phyna briefly deactivated her Instagram account. In a statement, the Dangote Group expressed sorrow, reaffirming its commitment to safety, accountability, and support for those affected by such tragedies. The burial brought closure for Phyna and her family, while also renewing calls for stronger road safety measures across Nigeria.
