Iranian military officials say they have targeted a US naval facility in Bahrain, launching attacks across the region in response to what they described as a “massive” and continuing assault by the United States and Israel. Thick columns of black smoke were reported near the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. It is not yet clear how much damage was caused, and US authorities have not issued a statement.
Elsewhere in the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait — all of which host American military installations — reported intercepting missiles within their airspace. In Doha, Qatar’s defence ministry announced that several missiles believed to be aimed at Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the region, were successfully intercepted. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it was striking American bases and assets under an operation named “Truthful Promise 4”, describing the move as retaliation for the US and Israeli attack on Iran earlier on Saturday.
The earlier assault, which began at around 09:15 local time in Iran (06:15 GMT), reportedly targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership. US President Donald Trump urged Iranians to rise against their government following the strikes. In Israel, warning sirens sounded nationwide after the military announced it had identified incoming missiles launched from Iran. The United Arab Emirates’ defence ministry said the country faced what it called a “blatant attack” involving Iranian ballistic missiles. It added that its air defence systems responded effectively, intercepting several of the projectiles.
According to the ministry, falling debris struck a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in material damage and the death of one civilian. The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, located south of Abu Dhabi, in coordination with the UAE Air Force.
