Veteran Nollywood Actress Oby Kechere Dies Following Brief Illness

The Directors Guild of Nigeria on Friday announced the death of veteran actress Oby Kechere, revealing that she passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, following a prolonged illness. She was widely celebrated for portraying “Ms Koi Koi” in the 2002 hit comedy Aki na Ukwa.

In a statement signed by DGN President Uche Agbo, the guild mourned the actress’ passing, describing it as a painful loss to the Nigerian film industry. Kechere also held the position of Vice Chairman of the Abuja chapter of the guild. The statement conveyed the guild’s heartfelt sympathies to her family, friends, and colleagues, while paying tribute to her contributions to Nollywood and her legacy within the industry.
