Afrobeats star Wizkid has made history as the first African artiste to surpass 11 billion streams on Spotify. The achievement marks yet another major milestone in the singer’s expanding international music career. The announcement was made on Tuesday by music analytics platform ChartsAfrica via X, formerly known as X, recognising him as the first African artiste to attain the feat.

According to the platform, Wizkid remains the first African act to hit every major Spotify streaming benchmark, from one billion streams up to the newly attained 11 billion mark. The latest record comes just days after the release of his joint track “State of Mind” with DJ Tunez on May 15, which amassed over 685,000 global Spotify streams within its first 24 hours.

Earlier in January, the singer, widely known as Big Wiz among fans and colleagues, also became the first African artiste to cross the 10 billion Spotify streams milestone. Industry stakeholders and fans have since hailed the accomplishment as another defining moment for African music’s growing influence on the global stage.
