Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work on the ₦10.8 billion Gully Erosion Control Project in Kargo, Dutse Local Government Area. During an unannounced inspection on Saturday, Namadi criticized the contractor, Retercha Company Limited, for using substandard materials and warned that his administration would not tolerate poor workmanship.

The World Bank-supported project, implemented under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) initiative, aims to address erosion challenges in communities such as Danmasara, Yalwawa, and Kargo.

“We demand only top-quality work that can withstand the test of time,” Namadi stated. He stressed the need for a durable and beneficial project for the affected communities and instructed the contractor to rectify the substandard work immediately.

“My administration will not accept poor-quality work, especially on projects designed to improve citizens’ lives,” he added. The governor urged swift corrective action to ensure the project meets its intended objectives.

Efforts to obtain a response from the contractor’s representative at the site were unsuccessful, as he declined to comment on the governor’s concerns.
