The Lekki Central Mosque has removed a banner that sparked widespread outrage among Christians. However, the new banner erected in its place has also raised eyebrows. The previous banner, which was displayed at the mosque’s entrance, facing the main road, read: “Jesus Christ is not God! He is a prophet and messenger of God!” This statement was deemed deeply offensive by Christians, who uphold the belief in the Holy Trinity.

Christians pointed out that the banner was disrespectful to their faith, as it denied Jesus’ divinity. The backlash prompted the mosque to remove the banner. However, the new banner has also sparked controversy.

It reads: “No deity is worthy of worship except Allah the Lord of Jesus Christ, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Muhammed, & all prophets”. This statement has been criticized by Christians, who view it as another attempt to undermine their beliefs.

The mixed reactions to the new banner have led to its removal. The incident highlights the need for greater sensitivity and respect for different faiths in Nigeria.
