The Niger State Police Command has arrested a serving soldier, Private Sadiq Sani, for allegedly cutting off three fingers of a businessman, Abdulrahman Salihu, during a dispute in Minna, the state capital.

The incident reportedly took place on the day of Eid-el-Fitr, when Private Sani visited Salihu’s shoe shop in the Makera area of Minna to purchase a pair of shoes.

After choosing the item, Sani allegedly requested the shop owner’s bank details to make a transfer. However, it was later discovered that the soldier had sent a fake payment alert. When Salihu refused to release the shoes pending payment confirmation, an altercation ensued, during which Sani allegedly attacked him and severed three of his fingers.

The suspect was arrested at his residence in Makera along with another individual. Both have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and possible prosecution.
